FUND RAISING:

Since our inception in 1988, Trowbridge & District Committee have raised almost £100,000
in aid of the Bath Cancer Unit. All of which has been absorbed into the Bath Cancer Unit Support
Group's Appeal to purchase an additional Linear Accelerator (officially opened in August 2000),
plus refurbishment's of the various departments and wards for cancer patients, in the Royal United Hospital, Bath. This fantastic sum has come from organising such events as a Picture Auction, an 'Howzat Appeal', Supper/Dinner/dance/Coffee and Disco functions, Fun runs, annual Trowbridge Town collections as well as at Supermarkets such as Tesco, Safeway, Sainsbury's and the like. To enable us to make these collections, we enlist the help of our band of 25/30 volunteers, (we always require additional helpers) who are able to devote 1-2 hours of their time, manning stalls etc on any given day.

The Howzat sports appeal in 1989/90 included a snooker exhibition match featuring Steve Davis & Jimmy White

Private organisations, such as Trowbridge Lions, HSBC, Trowbridge District Council,
Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce, Lloyds TSB and other outlying towns/villages,
such as Devizes, Melksham, Southwick, Warminster and Westbury etc. all have their own
fund raising events and contribute to this worthy cause. Companies/Offices/Banks and
Factories also contribute with either monies or gifts/articles to raffle. Another means is
from Collecting Boxes in Pubs, Clubs, Shops and Garages. Donations and Bequests are
another source of revenue, from grateful patients and their families and these, thanks to
recent tax changes can be very beneficial to charity organisations, if these Donations and
Bequests come from taxpayers. Our Chairman will be only too pleased to advise you.

· By supporting Fund Raising Events.

· By organising an event/function of your own - if you need any ideas or help then give us a call

· Why not set up and manage your own circuit of collecting boxes in your area ?
again, just give us a call or sign in on our visitors page

· We always require articles for the fayres that we attend. Items such as ornaments,
glass, china/brass/copper, costume jewelry etc. are all good fund raisers, so why not
check out that attic and give us a call or sign in.

· We would also appreciate any of your left over foreign notes or coins.
Why not have a word with your local mini bus and taxi drivers! Local garages
and shops also seem to get landed with these unwanted items.
Stamps, used British or Foreign, are also another source of revenue,
so do please telephone or sign in, if you have any of these items.

· You can also assist us by helping to distribute copies of the Supportline Newsletter,
our very informative newspaper, around your local area. This is published twice a year
and is a font of information on the Bath Cancer Unit, with photographs of events and news
from the Bath catchment area together with information on expenditure and the latest progress
on fund raising and the Royal United Hospital.
